Harnessing Generative AI to Enhance Access to Online Dispute Resolution in Employment Law

Abstract

As part of the UK Government-funded Regulators Pioneer Fund 3 project, Bangor University developed a prototype Web-based system to assess the effectiveness of Artificial Intelligence, specifically Large Language Models, in facilitating the recommendation of appropriate Online Dispute Resolution tools to people with issues related to employment law. This paper explains the EmployODR prototype and matters raised in development and user testing, particularly as a catalyst for further discussion of generative AI’s promise in enhancing access to justice in employment law and its potential use in mapping pathways to dispute resolution.
